this is me… shelbie cano, i figured if i were to start blogging the best thing to do would be for me to introduce myself. so enjoy this little ‘it’s all about me’ post… (btw ∧∧∧ those images were taken by the young and talented bailee cano who just so happens to be my daughter.)

this is also me…. 8th grade, puff paint shirt that spelled out my name, crispy curled hair… can it get any cuter (don’t answer that!) after kind of crazy childhood i basically grew up in the cypress area. i longed to be good at something like most kids… (because grammar and spelling definitely weren’t it.) i found art class… my junior high art teacher introduced me to the art of photography in the last week of 8th grade. she then told me i should totally take photography in high school (yes, she said it just like that!)… probably because i wasn’t all that good at art. (if you are out there mrs. casey cruzen and diana waguespack, thank you) so my love of photography i say began way back in the 8th grade and multiplied when i stepped into my high school darkroom for the first time.

my family:

this is our crazy bunch of five… yep we are 5 strong. we are far from perfect (shh… don’t tell anyone.) but we love hanging out together. we enjoy watching our girls play softball… and watching jj watt and the houston texans play softball is pretty fun too. we try and have family game night as often as possible. the champion of the night is presented the trophy by the previous winner of family game night… it’s usually a very heart felt celebration of honoring the current winner. (not really… the winner usually boast for at least 24 hours if not more and the previous winner usually pouts for a week. it’s great fun.)

my favorites things:

i pretty much love all things… well except spelling… laundry… people that don’t have the words “yes and ma’am” in their vocabulary… grammar… pickles on my sandwiches… and spelling… and grammar (good thing this will be an image heavy blog after today.)  although i do love most things i do love love love a few things a little more than others…

coffee and chocolate:  i love coffee and chocolate… separately or together… the smaller the coffee shop the better. the darker the chocolate the better… the end

i’m a Jesus believer: yep… i’m one of those. one of my favorite things to photograph is vacation bible school at our church. we transform our entire church into whatever the current theme is. our pastor should start charging for his comedy shows. it is all kind of amazing, hilarious, spectacular, and just a whole lot of fun!

maui… in february of 2016 i was incredibly honored to take a trip to the island of maui to photography a wedding. my husband and i instantly fell in love from the moment we landed. when i say i would do almost anything to get back there… i am being completely serious! (read: will work for airline maui tickets) i never thought i was a beach girl (have you been to galvestion… can you blame me) but i am definitely head over flip flops for maui! hopefully soon i will blog my entire trip to maui so you may get an idea of why part of my heart is still there.

old stuff makes me happy… i have always loved… not new stuff. i would rather find something with a history and give it a new use. twice a year my sister, my sister n law, and my mom head to warrenton, texas (most know it as round top antique week) for a day full of walking and dusty treasures. this past spring i came up with an incredible idea… who ever found the craziest/ oddest thing would win a prize. it was seriously fun and i almost won until my sister n law found the coffin with a window… yes we skip getting a picture of that one…

childhood cancer awarness rhettbull rhett texas children's photography the battle march real day in the life of houston

childhood cancer… it might seem kind of strange that i listed childhood cancer under ‘my favorite thing’ but let me briefly explain…  in september of 2014 i found out one of my favorite 3 year olds was diagnosed with leukemia. i began photographing his journey from the beginning and realized it provided a lot of proof of just what God was bringing him though… which was a lot! at his one year mark i began photographing other kids with cancer and their journey in order to try and bring more awareness. and so the battle march was born. the battle march’s ‘journey’ i think has only begun. so when i list childhood cancer under ‘my favorite things’ know that one of my favorite things to do is to spreading awareness for childhood cancer… although one day i pray the need for it isn’t necessary!

it’s not all about me…

i know this first blog post was a long one and if you have gotten this far i am deeply honored! as i begin to grow my photography business in this new way i hope you will know that five star portraits is really all about you… every session is custom to fit you and your personality with a simple touch of five star style. I would love to hear from you on my contact page or maybe comment below and tell me your favorite dessert, your favorite movie or maybe just a simple note to say, hey i don’t like pickles on my sandwiches either.

it’s all about you…

yours truly,

sincerely,

love ya… maybe,

How sweet of you to recognize the 2 teachers who made such a positive impact on you. I think you took senior pictures of a girl out on our property (Double J Feed on Boudreaux) in Tomball.

What can I say about my amazing and talented sister? You take every single photo shoot and make it very personal and all about the client. (Am I aloud to call them clients, they are really all friends in the end). Each session is a unique combination of the clients personality and your style behind the camera. I am guessing all of those pictures mom make at take at the studio in front of a fake screen really inspired you to be a different photographer. You have brought so much more attention to childhood cancer than any of us ever knew. I am so proud of you and all that you do for the greater good of everyone.
